Greetings all:

You know just this morning I was checking the popular Gw Forum Sites and it seems the number one topic being posted is something along the lines of "the trading system sucks" or "why trading bots should be banned"...and it makes me think.

My point is the name of the game is Guildwars, this implies that the game is based on teamwork...after all america is put up against the other regions to gain favor and gw ladder rating as well as personal rank...but I hardly never see anyone playing like a team...the problem with the trade system is not due to Anet's incompetence, its due to player greed. Everyone want to pay less than something is worth and sell things for more than they are worth...

In my guild and with my ally guilds we never sell anything to members, and we freely gift items to people we play with...I personally enjoy farming green items in hope of that elusive bullwark, but not so i can sell it for mad cash, i farm for it because i know the guy i give it to will return the favor....

I think americans should stop the madness of the race to earn godly gold and start playing like one big guild...veteran players should always train new players and freely gift items they need..it will come back to us when america dominates the ladder, especially when factions is released.

The market value for items we need will be greatly decreased if we just give them to who needs them...you will not need 15k for a bow string, you will need zero gold..everyone can make a difference. next time you get something you need, give to somone who could use it...it will come back to you ten fold

if we need it why would we give it away to someone else who needs it? I really dont understand what you mean. And giving stuff away free is cheating yourself because everyone needs money, thats by selling stuff people need. If we did that in real life we would get no where.

Its called karma.

If i have a newby and they ask for any items I immediatly tell them "find the collector for the item you need and I'll give you upgrades."

GET OUT OF THE DIABLO MENTALITY.

This is about the only game in the past 10 years that is not item dependant. That's going to be some hard habit to break. Like telling some one that's smoked for 10 years that he has to quit.

It's amazing how difficult such a concept is for so many to grasp.

i will take the thanks any time.

i gave a nice gold to a brit in the int district and he said Blimy thats nice what do you want for it?

when i said its a gift just click accept he was very happy.

But alas, you will still need ~2 million for a full set of fissure armour.

1.2 million now. This is exactly what this post is about in the first place. That items are completely useless compared to knowing stategy and skills.

Thanks for the replies:

I am not implying that you should give away something you need, im saying you should gift the things you dont need...does anyone need 6 Victos Bullwarks? Ah, but you think "yeah but i need the money for x or y..." What i am trying to say is you will not need that money because the items will be gifted to you....

as far as FOW Armor goes, I have FOW Armor and i earned it through farming and questing for good items just like everyone else...ive found probably 4 Sup Absorbtion Runes and a couple of Superior Vigor Runes wich i did not give away...I sold superior abs for 15k and a sup vigor for 5k....to real people who needed them.

i am not saying give everything away and become ghandi....im just saying we should spam the trade chanel a couple of times when we find something good before we sell to the merchant or traders...instead of asking 15k for something just take 5k or 2k....

Karma will bring everthing back to you 10 fold...you think im just lucky to find 4 sup abs? led alone the quantity of other items ive gotten....

and why we are on the subject...maybe I should start my own auction house of things to give away, instead of guild storage it will be american Gw player storage

There's no karma mechanic in Guild Wars. Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way. Sure, good things happen to some nice people, but they also happen to bad people too. "The rain falls on both the evil and the righteous."

And also something else to think about ... if you are often broke, and don't really get good drops (which is my own curse, but it doesn't bother me): giving away your help is ALWAYS free and greatly appreciated to new players 99% of the time.

I actually saw some (insert GO RED ENGINE here) offering his help in the early ascalon missions for a price. Look, these just-out-of-sear newbies don't have money, how can that be profitable in the least? Furthermore, I think that's just in bad taste ... if you truly want to help, great, but don't charge people. If it's money you're after, go farm or merchant

Let me get this straight.
You don't sell anything, you give it away.
and
Somehow you manage to get FOW armor?
I reckon, someone gave you 140 ecto and 140 shard?

Looks like you sell, just like everyone else.
I'm no rocket scientist, but something don't add up.

love the op, when i was in my guild, and the members that were always there alot and helped out each other, and we'd gvg or help each other. anytime i got a gold max weapon, or something that they need. i gave it to them for nothing, and i've given some coin away to some people not alot of gold, because i feel that some should earn it not beg for it. but if there not asking for alot why not.

I've got alot saved up for ch.2 so if they need some coin that isn't going overboard, why not its just a game.

let me get you a calculator then.

how do you know that he did not get those ectos/shards as drops?

you have no idea of his play style , time spent, or even what areas he frequents.

gold?

maybe he picked it up from drops,

maybe he salvaged and sold junk like the rest of us?

The list goes on!

We give each other everything from crystalline swords to that rare insightful staff!

Friends and Guildies FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so you're assuming he got the equivalent of 1.2 mill from farming for ectos and shard + picking up loot and selling junk items to merchant.

All the good items, he gifts. Because he doesn't need.

That sounds good and all, but not very realistic.

lets see.

the gold crafting cost isnt that high it is the materials.

if he had one of the early invinci monks and got stuff before the nerfs.

not to forget if he was lucky enough to get ectos at 100-300 during the price reset.

i consider anything junk that the average buyer turns their nose up at which can add a few k per run.

over months that adds up especially if 2-4 hours a day is put in

For the record Americans are not the only ones guilty of this behavior so please stop bashing Americans. Many players from around the globe buy/sell/trade thereby adding to the problem(s).

Personally I give as much away as I can to guildmates/friends and allies(Guildmates & Allies often do the same for each other), if none of them need/want it I can often be found in Post Ascalon giving Greens, Golds & Purples, away to level 8 or less players/strangers to help them out(you'd be surprised to discover how many people think "free stuff" is a scam also how many people don't understand what level 8 or less means) , but for those that trade with me they are grateful and it brings a smile to my face to help others. Whatever I can't give away (there have been times) I salvage or sell back to the game. Only once in my history of GW have I bought from another player and that was to get our guilds Celestial Sigil. Oh, I'm American.

I love promoting Collector items or how to get green and Anet has done a great job at giving players what they need. I will teach any new player with questions about not needing "gold" items due to these alternatives.

I too love giving stuff away, there are a lot of good items that are not worth much due to "non-max" but in the hands of a new character but it's very hard to give away. You know how hard it was to give a way green hammer (worth 500 gold)and a not so max but nice shield, I had to almost force it on someone.

I do need things that farming can buy (pve) side, I still need weapon upgrade and rune unlocks, and I do want sup vigor for my pve character but don't have the 80+ plat (or around there) required to get it.
